The Ergonomics: The best new design kitchens tend to always consider the ergonomics of use. There is usually a triangle that measures the distance between the refrigerator, oven or hob and the sink. These are the three main work areas where food will be prepped and cooked, so there needs to be a good flow. Your design needs to be planned so that the space between these items is not too large or too small.
There are many ways to go about designing your kitchen and you can choose something off the plan or an architects design. You may not really know exactly what you want but you do have an idea of the style you like and what your budget is. This is where you now need to do some planning and start to define your likes and dislikes. If your kitchen is an unusual shape, or particularly large or small, then there may be some unique design elements to consider.

You need your kitchen to be practical, easy to use and safe, at the same time as being comfortable and decorated to your taste.
Work Surfaces: New home kitchen designs often focus on the cabinets, but your work surfaces are just as important. You need to ensure that not only is your choice of work surfaces practical but that there is adequate working space. It is a good idea to have set down areas, especially near your microwave or oven, and preparation space to ensure that your kitchen is highly functional. If you like to entertain in your kitchen, consider adding longer lengths of work surfaces to create serving space or a place where your guests can sit and chat while you finish preparing a meal.
Small Kitchen Design: Unlike larger kitchen spaces (which provide you with more design freedom) small kitchens need to be optimized for function before you take aesthetics into consideration. More than anything else, it‘s important that you are able to accomplish all of your cooking tasks as comfortably as possible when you‘re working in a limited space.
